Labor Day 2016, What's that HUM I hear?

9/5/2016

Sooooo Dave is unloading firewood from the truck and stops only to hear the hum of bees but where is it coming from?  We listen, we look and then way up high in the pine tree we see lots and lots of bees...Argh for a hive that has swarmed and is way out of reach!  So it goes with bees, here today and sometimes gone tomorrow.  Three hives just turned to two!

Summer pictures...can't believe it's come and almost gone.  ECU played Western Carolina for the opener this weekend and won...on to NC State next week at home...

A warm summer night and lots of bees on the front porch...same hive that swarmed today!

Extracted honey in July...5 gallons plus a little more.  Much lighter this year!

A visit with Nonna in July along with Karen & Peter, Anne & Bill...lots of work to do!

Sweet 100's gone bonkers!

...so much squash this year!

Garden Goodies

Lots of flowers in bloom.  Four new echinacea to the garden and hydrangea in blue and pink.  Trailing gardenia that looks like popcorn after dark, and day lilies all around.  The passion flower is back in bloom and growing nicely over the garden gate...smells like juicy fruit gum and is a site to see...most unusual flower in the garden...bees are content!

The Garden and a Vacation

Down to Florida for a week of visiting and vacationing...Karen and Peter join us on Sanibel and Captiva for two days. Time to visit with Charlie, Diane, Sarah, and Noah. Weather is wonderful but the company even better.  Nothing like a little bit of Paradise to kick off the summer months!

Karen and Peter try out the Paddle Board...Success in Sanibel!
